Our History
Management Engineers has its origins in the machine tool industry. In the 1960s, the INGERSOLL MILLING MACHINE COMPANY a leading American machine tool manufacturer, formed a consulting subsidiary to advise its own customers. Those early assignments included, for example, planning assembly lines and optimizing production processes for INGERSOLL customers in the automotive, aviation, and heavy machinery industries.
In the 1970s, the consulting group followed the expansion of its parent company to Great Britain and later (via Brussels) to Germany and France. Former McKINSEY consultant Bodo F. Holz joined the company as Managing Director in 1977, leading the European consulting business from its office in Brussels. In 1978, he founded the German subsidiary that went on to become a full fledged corporate consulting business.
In a 1988 management buyout spearheaded by a German effort, the worldwide consulting companies−by this time renamed INGERSOLL ENGINEERS−separated from the INGERSOLL group and continued their activities independently. The German company changed its name in 1994 to Management Engineers, a term that has since been trademarked internationally for results-oriented consulting.
ME were regarded as a Hidden Champion who sets benchmarks for the consulting business on such important criteria as know-how, experience, and implementation competence. It is with these strengths that we have achieved so much: We were named the Shooting Star of the Consulting Industry by Manager Magazin in 2009 and rank among the top ten German strategy consultants.
MANAGEMENT ENGINEERS is wholly owned by its 19 operatively responsible and active partners. Being our own shareholders, we therefore also think and act as independent entrepreneurs. With 175 employees, we have an on-site presence – with offices in Europe, North and South America, and Asia.
